Mission

The Magic City Fly Fishers (MCFF), Chapter 582 of Trout Unlimited, and an affiliate of the Federation of Fly Fishers, conducts and supports activities in order to advocate the sound management, preservation, restoration, and public access to Montana's fisheries.  Particular emphasis is placed on trout and the promotion and preservation of the sport of fly fishing as the means to maximize individual skill and enjoyment.

History
The Magic City Fly Fishers chapter of Trout Unlimited was officially organized on January 9, 1990 in Billings, Montana.  It is one of thirteen Trout Unlimited chapters in Montana, serving south central and southeastern Montana, and currently has over 600 members. MCFF is a non-profit organization, governed by the Chapter By Laws that were approved when it was first organized. A Board of Directors establishes the policies of the Chapter and oversees the conduct of business and activities on behalf of the members. MCFF holds monthly membership meetings, September though June, with each meeting featuring a guest program. MCFF also publishes a monthly newsletter, The Hackle Bender, and maintains this web site for the purpose of communicating with our members and friends. The Chapter charges a modest membership fee to cover the costs of programs, newsletters and other administrative expenses. In addition to sponsoring youth fly tying classes and other education activities for several years, MCFF has evolved to become much more active in area conservation and access issues, as well. Consistent with its mission, in addition to monthly members meetings, MCFF conducts numerous volunteer activities and events throughout the year. Some of these include:

» Fly tying classes at local elementary schools
» Volunteer activities to support the efforts of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to
conserve, protect and restore fish habitat
» Participate in local shows, jamborees, expos and forums, such as the Montana
   Outdoor Recreation Expo
» Weed pulls at area fishing access sites
» Conduct and support local fly fishing classes and education programs
» Support and encourage the improvement and expansion of local stream access
» Work with Montana Trout Unlimited to support their projects to conserve, protect, and
   restore fish habitat
» Support Project Healing Waters through the donation of hand tied flies contributed by
   club members
» Support and participate in the annual FFF conclave
» Conduct fly tying and rod building classes for club members
» Conduct fishing trips for new members
» Establish a Foundation Fund for the purpose of perpetuating community fly fishing and
   conservation activities and programs
» Conduct an annual Fly Fishing Expo to promote fly fishing and raise funds for the Billings
Magic City Fly Fishers Foundation Fund
» Provide public information and education on political issues that impact our mission
» Conduct and participate in events and activities to encourage and promote fly fishing
